L-ergothioneine (EGT) is a rare natural chiral amino acid strong antioxidant, highly soluble in water, and the only natural 2-thioimidazole amino acid discovered to this day. Due to its unique thione structure and high redox potential, ergot sulfur is less prone to self oxidation under physiological pH conditions and is more stable compared to other thiol antioxidants such as glutathione. Ergosulfan has many functions such as clearing free radicals, detoxifying, maintaining DNA biosynthesis, normal cell growth, cellular immunity, radiation resistance, whitening, and anti-aging. It plays an important role in antioxidant and energy regulation, and is a multifunctional cellular bioprotective agent.
