On July 13, 2017, the European Union issued Regulation (EU) 2017/1281 approving EGT as a new resource food ingredient. And list the specifications, heavy metal content, microbiological standards, and usage limits of ergot sulfur in the attachment. The limit for lead is 3ppm, the limit for mercury is 0.1ppm, and the limit for cadmium is 1ppm. The limit of use of ergot in the general population (excluding pregnant and lactating women) is 30mg/d, and the limit of use in children over 3 years old is 20mg/d.
